I would need your expertise; I have the opportunity to buy a HW77 in .177 with serial number: 1019349

Am I correct in assuming that this rifle still features a 25mm piston?

Yes. If it hasn't been got at. Get a look/photo of open breech. In 25 mm the seal bore edge touches the inside dia. of comp. tube.

Is it that important? (+~8% surface)
I recon they are both good, just require different tunes
We are not comparing 22 and 28 mm.

Probably not for many users. Just a pity if someone buys one thinking it's original spec. then finds it's been cannibalised.
