Hi Folks. recently purchased my first PCP, an S400 classic second hand and I reckon it needs a service. Should I send it to Air Arms or to Ben Taylor. I've heard nothing but praise for both AA and Mr Taylor and was wondering if any of you kind chaps could point me in the right direction with regards to price , turn around etc.
Thanks in advance
Bill
PS. Is the aforemention Mr Taylor "bengarzy" on this board?

IMHO I would go to Ben for the personal service.
After all that is said and done - More is said, than done!
I am in same positon. My second hand s410 will need a service soon(ish). I live about 1/2 hours drive fron Air Arms' factory but I will be sending it to Ben Taylor.
By reputation alone the bloke is a genius.

If I could add my view... go to ben taylor and son, they will be able to get it shooting better than new.
Great customer service too.
Ben knows his tatties, and he won't bu11$h1t you.

Whilst AA are brilliantly produced mass production guns, I know I own three of them, I doubt very much if the individual who services,s your gun at AA would have anywhere near the expertise, and experiences that Ben has, (with maybe the exception of Ken , but I doubt if he would be employed on routine servicing) . No disrespect to AA employees.
Ben is not now involved in mass production, so he can give a far more personnel service, than before.
Now I know there are a few others out there that can offer a personnel, and often excellent service, but I don't think you will be disappointed with the results if you choose to send it to Ben.

Hi Nelsdad,
I took my AA TDR to Ben, and my FWB 127, and the results are fantastic!
He fitted a regulator to the TDR, it's a modified 177 version, and it now does 120 shots per fill with absoutely no power curve, all shots are at 11.5 ft/lbs.
The FWB 127, .22, is over 20 years old and now works better than it ever did. Ben trued up the barrel and manufactured a new piston and spring, the whole lot was then tuned and now produces 11.88 ft/lbs consistently.
Even when my TDR developed a small leak Ben fixed it for free and topped up my 12L 300 bar bottle for free too!
It cost me £195 for the reg job and £60 for the FWB repair and tune.
Fantastic value, fantastic service.
Cheers

Hi Darren. Yes mate I reckon ther's something not quite right with the gun. Bought it second hand recently and when I chrono'd it , it was coming out at a steady 9.5 ft/lb. One of the experts at the club tried to adjust the power to something nearer 11.5 using the grub screw at the transfer port but it made no difference, the power sat at 9.5. Also the first thing I noticed was that the blanking torq screw for the adjustment port was missing so I reckon someone has been messing around with it. If you have any advice on this problem I'd be very grateful to hear it - otherwise its a visit to Mr T.Originally Posted by Darren Petts
