BSA Club .177 power figures .

Would anyone care to comment on these performance figures please ?

I can hit a grape at 15 metres with open sights with this little baby.

    RWS Superdomes .177 8.3g

    Actual weight of each pellet used 8.4g ( some were 9.00 g down to 8 1 g )

Number of shots 5 over a Skan Crono as follows.

    1, 690 fps 8.88 ft lb

    2, 692 fps 8.93 ft lb

    3, 690 fps 8.87 ft lb

    4, 674 fps 8.50 ft lb

    5, 688 fps 8.84 ft lb

Good, acceptable, average , poor or bad ?

    It shoots straight mind .

    Any thoughts or comparisons ?

    Thanks ..

    Thanks Geezer.

Wasn't sure what was good or not so good.

I thought maybe about 10 ft lb and a bit over 700 fps..

I changed the spring in mine for a soft (TX200 mk3) spring.. really calmed it down; came in a smite under 9 FP. changed from something I wanted to sell to a keeper

there's quite a bit of lost volume, so they don't want to be over sprung, so as above, I'd say it's perfect.

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

It certainly feels right , and as you say much if anymore would probably ruin it from a smooth shooting gun.

I just wasn't sure what the design performance figures were.

Dare I bring this thread I’d forgotten about back to life ..

I’ve been scratching my head still with the Accuracy problems and front sight woes on my BSA club .177 and so decided to do some Testing on my Skan as I’ve now put a few through it since it’s service.

    Here are my latest figures.

    Superdomes:

    1, 707 fps 9.3 ft lb
    2, 693. 8.9
    3, 711. 9.3
    4, 709. 9.3
    5, 692. 8.8

    Hobby’s

    1, 775 9.3
    2, 773. 9.3
    3, 768. 9.1
    4, 774. 9.3
    5, 768. 9.1

Any thoughts please ? I was clearly doing well last year with it. I’d clean forgotten I used it for shooting grapes off a block of wood , but I was hitting them with ease. It’s now all over the place( well high ) what could of changed so dramatically ?

Is it because it’s shooting faster FPS ?

    It’s got me baffled !

Edit : in fact it’s not that much faster really is it with Superdomes ? It’s the lighter hobby’s that are much quicker . I didn’t test them last year.

This the same BSA Club that couldn't hit the barn door after you had it serviced Steve?

If it is, I would be asking the tuner some damn serious questions.
I know what I would be suspicious of which is the possibility that I hinted at in one of my posts on your thread.

Or has someone else had access to your Club?

It’s the same gun , but it’s only had a service no major work on it.

I remember shooting the grapes last year but I’d forgotten it was with my “ Club “ .

Well, if the front sight hasn't been replaced by yourself or another person while in their care, the 'misappropriation' would be the fairys at the bottom of the garden Steve.
These things have been known to happen before. Not the fairies Steve

Or someone has bent the barrel.

I have thought on. To improve the Clubs' accuracy, perhaps put away the spinner targets and buy a bunch of grapes. If that front sight has not been exchanged using grapes could very well be the answer.

Hitting a grape at 15 yards? I'd be lucky to see it over standard open sights.

I'd say the Club and you are shooting well above average.

I think they were the larger Tesco variety last year .

As things stand minus my mounted toothpick front sight extension , I’m strictly stuck on grapefruits at the moment.

I was running about 7fpe from my club, real accurate, dosnt need power for targets.
If you want power, get a .22, they run near 12 without any issue.
    Thanks - Geoff.

Just breezed upon this thread a few minutes ago and seeing some of the hilarious comments regarding the size and and varieties of grapes 😅 used for targets. As a previous correspondent said, the very fact you
can see a grape at ..... 15 yards is quite remarkable in itself!
However, if your next target session results in no improvement then, 'you're on tae plums' as we say here in Jockland! 😂
Btw your story has now inspired me to dig out my Airsporter Club and try something similar, although I've only got an 'Argos Catalogue Chrony' atra moment. If it shoots as far as the Ladies Lingerie section then it'll be Hunky Dory.... Tickety-Boo no less.

Incidentally, what variety of grapes do you recommend... Are Red ones more ballistically friendly than White ones? Chilean or South Aftican? Perhaps with ever reducing eyesight it may be more practical to continue to the next stage of the grape evolution and plink at wine bottles instead!😎
