    All this started me thinking.

Calibration is the comparison against another calibrated device. My ‘calibration’ is the comparison of two chronos, this relies on the premise that two different make, independent chronos would most likely not develop the same inaccuracy at the same time.

I have two chronos. Occasionally I put them close together and read both. As long as they are within a fps or two I put the highest figure into the online AirGunDepot calculator. If the calculated fpe is circa 11 to 11.5 ftlb I’m happy. The important ability in the chrono is accuracy.

I mainly use a chrono for strings of shots to see consistency. For this, the important ability of the chrono is precision.

So what was I thinking? - what does calibration do; it compares accuracy. But if the chrono is not very precise you could be chasing the calibration from shot to shot.

I was happy with my level of knowledge before reading this thread, but now it has been challenged.
