    Air Arms EV2 Mark IV.

I have been lucky enough to acquire a nice example of an Air Arms EV2 (Mark IV type) and I am looking forward to testing it as soon as possible, but the rifle came with a nice rubber butt pad as the previous owner preferred it for bench rest shooting - and I would like to find an original metal type as it would suite my use for the rifle a little better.

Unfortunately the original alloy butt plate was sold some time ago so I am hoping that somebody (FT competition shooter?) reading this will have one that they would like to sell to me?

I know that most EV2 rifles are modified fairly extensively - often changing the standard butt plate or even the complete stock for a "specialist custom made" one, so there is a realistic chance that I may be able to find an unwanted butt plate that its owner would like to convert into cash so I can return my EV2 back to wearing an original adjustable competition type of butt plate!

If anyone knows of one that could be for sale, please contact me by PM or email to let me know.

I have fitted an MEC Contact 3 on a modified base to allow it to be mounted on the original EV2 Mk IV "single post" stock fitting and it looks really good and works well too, so I will shoot my new toy this way until I can find an original Air Arms adjustable butt plate taken from another EV2 Mark IV (or Mark 3 ?) - or even one from an FTP900 would fit straight on.

...then I can return the Contact 3 to the Walther that I borrowed it from!

Isn't the optional buttplate available for the MPR the same unit as the EV2? If so that may give you some more options.

    Hi Pete,

Thanks for your suggestion, but as far as I can see from the various Air Arms catalogues that I have here to refer to, the MPR has a RUBBER buttplate that is screwed to the rear of the stock and does not fit onto the telescopic adjustable single post mounting system that comes on the EV2 Mark IV (and Mark3 ?) and (in an improved ball mounted version) is also used on the current FTP900 model.

The single post mounting system is telescopic and allows for easy length adjustment that a screwed-on buttplate cannot give, and it also allows for a degree of swivel too, and when combined with the wing adjustments of the original buttplate it gives as much adjustment and fitting options as many of the top match rifle butt plates.

I have tried to replicate this as much as possible by mounting a Contact 3 onto a machined plate that in turn is mounted onto the end of the original adjustable mounting post. This retains all of the adjustment of the Contact 3 and also keeps the telescopic length adjustment (and swivel) of the EV2 stock - although the Contact 3 is lighter in weight and so alters the balance slightly.

The above combination looks good on the rifle and works well, but I want to return the Contact 3 to my Walther as soon as possible, and I would also like to return the EV2 to its original spec (if possible) with the heavier Air Arms EV2 buttplate - or even upgrade it slightly with the very similar looking FTP buttplate.

Any of the above three Air Arms types ( Mark IV, Mk 3 and FTP) would fit the single mounting post system, look good, and restore the original look and balance.

    Hi Bob,

Google MPR metal buttplate kit they are showing in stock at a few companies around £200. Not sure about the single post attachment though. That said I'm sure someone on here will have one from an EV2.

Maybe they have some of the older EV2 Mark 1 or 2 adjustable metal buttplates still available Pete? These early types never used the later single post mounting system, but screwed directly onto the end of the stock just like the standard adjustable rubber MPR buttplate - so it would make a nice easy fit upgrade for any MPR owner who fancied an adjustable match style metal buttplate instead of the standard rubber type..

A lot of FT shooters change their buttplates (and often their stocks too!) so I am hoping that there will be quite a few unused post fitting EV2 and FTP buttplates lurking around out there somewhere that are currently not being used and hopefully someone would like to convert one of them into a bit of ready cash to put towards some fresh pellets or other kit.

If complete FTP900 buttplates were available from stock for around £200 I could be interested - but a s/h example for less would be a lot more appealing

Good condition (often mint) Contact 3 buttplates come up for sale often enough for around the £75 price mark, and if another one pops up while I am still looking for an original AA one I would be tempted to buy it as I have already made the base plate to adapt it to fit my EV2 , it looks good and works well and I can live with the slight change in balance!

If I was cleaver enough to post pictures on here I would show my EV2 with the Contact 3 mounted on it - it does not look at all shabby !
