    98 front sight

I currently use my 99 in the MPL & it performs well, a few months ago i picked up a 95 with open sights, i like the rifle but the stock doesn't suit me, certainly not with open sights anyway.
BUT in the next couple of days i hope to pick up a 98, my intention has been to put the 95 in the 98 stock, to make a target rifle, but was wondering is there a front sight available for the 98 ?

If I've understood the question correctly, yes there is as you can buy the "HW98" with open sights fitted (it's known as the HW95 Supermatch), but they are only available from Germany as a direct import ( see here for images and pricing : https://www.versandhaus-schneider.de...e5e6aea8af5880).

This suggests to me that somehow or other one could be cobbled together from either starting point (subject to the 95 barrel being used as I'm led to believe that there is a shroud available for it and it has provision for open sights).

    Rob,

The HW95 Super Match is a very nice shooting rifle.

The issue (for me) of all HW98-esque rifles, is that they are far too muzzle heavy.

Mine has had lead weight inserted into the butt, to balance the rifle to just in front of the trigger guard.

You can also see lead sheet under the cheek-piece.

The idea was to create a modern facsimile of a Walther LG55/LGV.

    Have fun

    Best regards

I like it Russ !, putting lead under the adjustable cheek piece was what i was thinking of doing, but when i get it i can play around, & see which action shoots best, & which suits me best, if it proves to be a good one i might sell the MPL busting 99 !

    Rob,

So we can expect an MPL busting HW98 and / or an MPL busting HW80

    Look forward to seeing them

Have fun & a good weekend

    Rob,

    Spiffing

From personal experience with HWs & calibre changes, you may get ca. 1 to 1.5 ft.lb less from the HW80 in 0.177" as compared to it in 0.22".

However, the only way is to measure before & after and see what you get - all good for the pool of knowledge

Have fun & a good weekend

    Best regards

    Rob,

Sigh - the URL for the 'other place' is still being removed from any links

I have left a link there.

Have fun & a good Sunday

Thanks Russ, i have seen it & left him a message.

Had a quick shoot at 6yds with the 98 fitted with a red dot sight, almost pellet on pellet with bisley practice, i'll try the 95 in the 98 stock next
