It was my pleasure to know John. Visited him several times, and spent time shooting in his back garden. Much talk of cider making, politics as well as airgunning. He was an absolute gentleman. And I am so deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to his family. Bye for now JW.

    RIP John Whiscombe

Very sad news indeed , a true airgunsmith and visionary, I met him in 1989 when I ordered my JW50 Mk1 (£650) I’ve recently sold my JW50 Mk2 FB , superb rifles and worth every penny they command .
    Goodbye Mr Whiscombe 🙏🏻

What terrible news, he was a true gentleman, was honoured to have known him for over thirty years.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him but have been fortunate enough to have handled and tried a couple of examples of his engineering masterpieces.

    Another of the greats gone.

Very sad news and my condolences to family and all who knew him.

would it be fitting to have some sort of cup/shield to win at the boinger bash on an annual basis as a memorial to one of our greatest gunsmiths. be nice for him to be remembered in such a way after the masterpieces he created. just a thought maybe chaps.

Very sorry to hear of John's demise.Over the years I had the pleasure of talking to John at Markyate and trying some of his air guns when I spent a day at his house with a view to buying one of his earlier guns,( and trying some of his moonshine), something I eventually didn't do and regretted it. I did shoot in a team with John, myself and I believe Ken Turner and Jim Tyler. The name eludes me but it might have been the old codgers. As this year wears on more club members and friends are being lost when least expected,I'm truly sorry that John was one of them.I will always see the picture of john on the firing line doing FT in a dip of the ground on his knees both hands in the air and covered in thick runny mud!

A great loss, known John for about 8 years shooting at Bisley, his presence never failed to make a good day better, endlessly enthusiastic and knowledgable on a huge array of subjects, never a dull moment. He’ll be greatly missed by many people. RIP.

Have just had email from Derek Peckover letting me know. Very sad news indeed. I shot various comps with John over the years and a nicer chap you couldn't hope to meet, a real gent.

His rifles are amazing and a joy to shoot. Wish I'd had one when I had the chance.

Mine and on behalf of BARPC, our condolences to Johns family.

    RIP John
