So then, have we heard anything back from any of the pellet makers?

Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in
Today I took the Tracker with me to the range and with me I took a tin of Wasp 5.6 pellets that I found in the garage.
These are the non-Eley ones and were part of a job lot of older pellets I got given ages ago and I'd forgotten about under the impression they must be crap given all the bad reviews they get given.
Many shots later - I can only speak as I find...

Two representative samples of 5 shot groups produced at 25 yds...
The pellets were tight in the tap and needed seating with a biro - but I'm pretty impressed actually.
It just goes to show that there is no substitute for first hand testing and sometimes questioning popular wisdom for yourself.
So far I've tried...
JSB Exact Jumbo Express
Webley Special (black tin)
Defiant Vintage
RWS Superdome
Thunderbolt (non-toxic)
Login Penetrator
H&N FTT
Webley Flying Scot
Wasp 5.6 (made by Bisley?)
So far, the Wasps are noticeably the best, but the only slight downside is they won't drop in tap without seating.
(I tried seating the Superdomes slightly further into the tap as well, but it showed no improvement.)
But its a minor thing and I'll just make a little brass seating tool.
I also haven't checked the power of the Wasps as my pellet scales are at work - but frankly, I wouldn't sacrifice accuracy for a small loss in power.
I used a plastic golf tee as a pellet seating tool - worked for me.

Very interesting. I would never have expected it, not least given all the malformed pellets one finds in the tins. I bought a tin of them because they were cheap and only wanted to use them for burning off surplus oil on older rifles, after lubrication through the transfer port of the leather washer. I never even bothered to test them for accuracy. I will now have to do just that.
