    Webley omega barrel wanted

    Hi,
I'm looking for a full length barrel (19") for a webley omega, preferably in (don't start laughing) .177, or if push comes to shove .22, needed to complete a restoration job.
Or does anyone know if a stingray/patriot barrel, breech assembly would fit??
    Cheers

    Good luck with that!

I don’t think the Patriot etc bits will fit as only the Omega had the Anschutz-style breech lock.

I believe I may have one knocking around in my "might come in handy one day stash".

IIRC it has a slight upward tilt and the finish is not 100% so if you are happy with a project barrel at a project barrel price I can dig it out and send you pictures.

That's a coincidence, when I got my Omega (also .177) the barrel was bent or tilted upwards. It was quite easy to straighten using the time honoured method.

Which method was that? I have heard of a few.

It's not rocket science, though I did forget to say take the stock off.

    Not how I’d do it!

I have never done this, but I gather the approved bodge method is to remove the barrel, firmly clamp the breech block in a padded vice, and then progressively beat on the end of the barrel with an old cricket bat or similar.

Prefer to have breech in soft jaw vice then slip plastic tube or similar over barrel with steel pipe over that.
Increased leverage makes bending easy and gives excellent control.

I have heard of this method but wonder what undue pressure is being put on cocking arm/shoe/piston slot and possibly trigger mechanism etc?

That makes more sense than my cricket bat method.

And a lot more than the “cock rifle and point it at your head” method. Which has its issues.

Well, at least I'm advocating a method I've actually used successfully, not just Googled.

I was trying to be light-hearted, in a friendly way.

But, honestly, any method of doing anything that apparently involves cocking a rifle and pointing it at yourself rings some alarm bells.

Perhaps I have misunderstood your technique?

Cocked, but not closed, the barrel is broken when it's pointing at your head. Imagine cocking a break barrel gun, but pulling extra hard when the barrel is in the downwards cocked position. It's just a more controlled version of that.

Much less worrying than checking the cast on a shotgun stock
