    Airsporter S piston head

    Hi all,
Just renovating an Airsporter S and looking at a parts diagram from one of the airgun spares suppliers, the listings are for standard airsporter an alloy piston head, and for the S series a steel piston head? I thought the
Steel piston head was for the export/FAC versions, any clues?
    Cheers

Well all the S's I have stripped (Airsporter/Mercury) have had alloy heads, I always thought the steel ones where for FAC, export versions but having read many times that people have struggled to get decent power then may be a steel one may be worth a try.

the piston is alrady too heavy, go alloy. better still (much better), make an adapter for a diana 28mm seal, and gain better sealing, and an extra 4-5mm stroke.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Yes there seems some inconsistency in what heads Bsa used on different versions of the same rifle so far I,v encountered, steel alloy and plastic heads and 2 different piston types, mine had a steel head very squared off unlike the alloy heads that have a nice rounded finish.
Which is slightly oversized and somewhat tight in the cylinder.
And a solid machined piston which is very heavy, rather than the normal pressed steel type that is somewhat seam welded.

I've never seen a steel one either in the flesh, I often wonder if someone has bought a steel one when servicing their rifle, to see if they can squeeze that little bit extra power out of it and then may be sold it on and then may be the next person thinking it came as standard when they've stripped it down.

I remember stripping an Airsporter down once and finding a small ball bearing (probably from the loading tap) embedded in the alloy head.
