    Hankering for a older HW35 ( E ? ).

I feel myself having a fancy for one of these older HW 35 models, any advice on what to look out for and preferred calibre, production dates ?

I’ve seen a couple of photos of the HW 35 E ( Export ) and they do look nice if a little chunky. I believe barrel lengths may have changed at some point as well. I’m also curious about the latching mechanism and it’s ease of use / reliability .

    I should add I’ve never shot one but I do like the older 77/77K, and Diana’s , 45 , 350 Mag , 75’s etc..

Do really nice Export 35’s come up for sale much ?

    Thanks for any guidance .

They're still in production now, tbh. If you look at some of I.J's photos of one of his latest purchase 35E's it's a stunner (and had a silver finish). The earlier E's had a 22" barrel, which was standardised back down to 19", along with the rest of the range; when, I'm not quite sure. Things to look out for:
Leeky breech brazing, up until the early '80's caused significant power loss. I've had this on at least two 35's I've owned. Remedy is pretty straightforward and involves Loctite and a straw (plenty about this if you search bbs).
Early (pre-1980) models had a leather piston seal and the heavier weight and shorter stroke of the piston, allied to generally a larger transfer port (this seems to vary between 2.8 and 4.0mm), means they are happier around 10 ft/lb. However, if you swap out the old piston for a newer one with synthetic piston seal, power will increase (I've done this with a recent '35 which had a 2.8mm tp. I wouldn't go for a leather seal replacement with the steel adaptor, as it tends to make the shot cycle quite harsh (for a '35)

I currently have two 35's, both Luxus models, one in each calibre. They don't look as sleek and sexy as some in my cabinet, so the danger is they get overlooked, then you do shoot them and wonder why you didn't shoot them more.

    Nice things to look at:

    https://forum.vintageairgunsgallery....eihrauch-hw35/

If I ever got one (nearly have multiple times), I’d want an older Luxus, EB, or 22” E (even though those are a bit silly, but they were a 70s/early 80s classic, as used by Arthur Shepherd in AGW).

    Some fabulous 35's there!

Didn't see one marked like this though!!

I once asked if anyone knew anything about a Eusta marked 34 on the HW forum, I was told it was a fake!!

I bought it from Blackrider on here!
