Original HW50 specs?

Does anyone have any specifications for the original HW50 or any review articals from the 1980's?
I think l read somewhere that the original has less power than the current HW50S because it uses a 25 mm diameter piston instead of the 26 mm piston.
What was the quoted weight and power for a .22 cal version?

IIRC the original HW50 had a screw in back block. I do not know if the piston was smaller.

The current 50 (as sold in Germany) is the same gun as the 99 in the U.K.

1980s HW50 had 25mm bore X 71mm stroke.

According to the Airgun book, all 25mm Weihrauch guns changed to synthetic in 1983.

I think our own JT still owns his Venom tuned HW50 from 1983? Great rifles and easy to work on. Mach 1.5

If I remember correctly, there are some stroke variations. And the later ones had synthetic seals.
We have three of these in the family, will try to get some measurements tomorrow and see if the variations I remember still exists

I have a review article dating back from march 1990 from Shooting news regarding the Hw50 written by Mike Fletcher.

Three 25mm piston models were available at that time.

Hw50 with the Perfekt trigger

Hw50s Rekord trigger

Hw50 SE Rekord trigger, open sights same as the Hw80/85 with a stock that looked like a mini Mk1 Hw80 stock.

Edit:- Power wise of the Mk1 Hw50 from the Hw factory, 9.5-10.5 ft lbs .22

Although when tuned you can expect 10+ ft lbs .177 and 11+ ft lbs .22

There are Hw55's made on the Hw50 platform without the barrel lock but I've yet to see one other than pictures.

Have you dated you Mk1 Hw50 to see when it was made ? It's never going to be a power house but a nice farm yard or ratting rifle.

I don't think they are quite the same - the 50 is configured at half the power of the 99 and the foresight takes elements whereas the 99 does not

The current HW50 has the same mechanism as the HW99. Its called HW50 everywhere else but the UK.
Its sold here in Norway, and mine was doing well over 12fpe when it came to me.
The German guns are just restricted because of their 7,5joule laws.

The early 80's HW50 usually developed around 85-90% of the power of the HW35 but with considerably less cocking effort required- as per John Walter in the first edition of his book.
I think around 530 fps would be ball park with Hobby.

I think l can be safe in assuming that a Mk1 HW 50 in .22 is capable of shooting at around the 10-11 ft/lb.
Basically l have located a near new rifle for sale and l was
wondering if it was useful for short range hunting, but l was not really interested if it was only capable of sub 10 ft/lb performance.
For me it's about power to weight. I already have a hw35 in .177 cal shooting at around 11.5 ft/lb but if l can get a lighter gun that shoots nearly that power level then thats useful.
However, the HW50 will have to wait as l just put down a deposit on a new FWB Sport (18J version). lt may be the only one of these in Australia and although l didn't really need it, after following the massive post on this website, l decided that the quality manufacture of this rifle was worth examining.
