Bruce's book should give you an idea of it's age.

    Early Mk1s

Ive always liked the simplicity of the v early Mk1s. I have nos 1193 and 1346. Probably my favourite straight grips. I recall the last spring clips were circa number 700. It would be intetesting to know the lowest surviving second series number.

My boxed double spring clip was 219, and my earliest thin gripped model after that was 2260.
The earlier Mk.1's including the spring clip model were supplied in a slightly smaller box than the later models, but I don't know from which serial number this change was implemented.
I was fortunate in that I had bought a few boxed wood grip Mk.1's, and one of them came with a smaller box, so I was able to reunite the spring clip with it's correct box.

That must have been satisfying feeling the first time you put it in the right box :-)
The survival rate on cardboard boxes after nearly a century cant be very high….
