Would a 1920 BSA Light has double springs?

Curious I have seen those double springs in BSA rifles didn’t know when they stopped?

Only one way to find out!

I’m assuming you’ve taken one apart before but if not they are very easy.

I have a rule don’t fix what’s not broken. No never had one a part but need a real reason to do so.

I think post-WW1 Lights like yours had 1 spring. Maybe all Lights in fact. This one certainly did.

    Look through the cocking slot?

From memory, my 1922 L pattern has 2 springs rated at 95kg with a washer separating the 2. They are 2 short matching broken springs from the 'box o spares '

Don't Know but according to john Knibbs second edition. The use of twin coil springs was standardised throughout the range in 1912. prior to that they had been used on the Improved model B at it's introduction. The book does not encroach on the post WW1 period.

Post 1919, BSA advertised single springs for the Standard No 1 and double springs for the Standard No 2/CS models.

An original BSA spring should have the piled arms logo stamped into the end coils.

    Hope that helps.
