    BSA long Tom

A mate is working on a rough 1922/23 BSA.
He sent me an image of the piston and asked about piston washer assembly.
I thought that it looked to me to be a modern replacement.
    From Knibbs?

    Can anyone verify this?

    Cheers.

It looks to me to be home made!

I have bought pre-war BSA Standard replacement piston seals and dish washer assembly's from Knibbs in the past, but the metal retaining disc washer in your pic does not resemble anything I've personally seen from Knibbs.

    Knibbs replacement piston seal assembly,

Incidentally, the one's I have bought from Knibbs are poorly made, often the dish washer is not formed deep enough for the screw to sit either flush with its flanged edge or slightly lower meaning on firing the screw sitting sightly proud can damage the cylinder transfer port face!

Exactly the same as fitted in one of my guns, serial number s53963.

The piston seal was rubber in the one I have.

I bought a new piston nut from knibbs, but it doesn’t fit 😤

To be honest it seems a poor version of the seal assembly, when the bean counters get involved possibly

It looks like the post 1929 patented piston seal arrangement that is usually encountered on T prefixed rifles and high numbered S prefix No 2s. A tool is needed to dismantle it rather than a turnscrew as was the case with pre 1929 models.

The bottom of the piston, which is visible through the rifle's cocking slot may be stamped P.PAT 16982-29
