    HW35 Stripped now wont cock

I stripped my HW35 and found the horrible chopped off stock spring so swapped it for a VMACH HW80 spring with guides, it wont cock now so I assume the guide or spring is too long, love to know which to save more experiments in cutting my hands...when I see kits advertised they normally say HW80/35 so I assumed all would be well.

A shame as I had a right fight getting the block back on with no tools!

    Any help appreciated

It sounds like the main spring is coil bound to me.

Personally I would take the mainspring out again (sounds like its going to have to come out again anyway) and cock it without any spring in.

This may be of some help. http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread....ng-data-thread

Put plastic in piston without the spring, check for excess length and trim rear guide til it sits flush. Then measure spring room (usually 85-95mm depending on year) and divide by wire gauge. That is how many coils will fit

Why would you think that a HW80 spring would fit in a 35 ?

No, theres not room for all the coils of an 80 spring in the 35.
You might have to cut some coils off the spring once you know the guides fit.

Nick - I am confused as I just checked your kits which are listed as HW35/80 so I wonder why Mr Pope's 80 kit wont cock...sorry I think it is the guides that are the same

Our standard 80/35 kits are available in two spring ID sizes, one of which was an old std size and one is aftermarket standard. The genuine springs are different gauge, wind and length. Add to that the 35 pistons have been different lengths over the years and it all gets terribly complicated.

The 35 and 80 springs are similar in OD to fit the same width piston, but your guides and/or spring need adjusting. Feel free to call me tomorrow if you're stuck, we'll be driving for 6+ hours and could do with the distraction

Well - it was the guides, removed the top hat all fine now, so....do I leave it now or remove the guide and shorten it by the hat length and refit the hat??

The spring will need a coil off to make space for the thickness of the top hat.

Probably the two guides coming into contact with each other. Test without the spring fitted then trim down the main guide to allow it to cock.

    There is no "hopefully"

You don't need to choose a spring size as it comes with a spring. My number is plastered all over the box and instructions. Ring me when you have the kit and gun apart in front of you. Have a thin stick and a ruler to hand and we'll check the spring room and get this right first time

Thanks Nick I will only bother you if I get really stuck, I know its never guaranteed but hoping not to have to cut the spring, being a 35 not much risk of it being hot!
