    Protek springs

Protek supplies offer a cheap spring for the Meteor, and another one for the larger BSAs.
The springs are claimed to be suitable for several other guns too, so I'm considering trying some as my collection of old springers has grown bigger than my supply of spare springs.

But the protek springs seem to have quite stout wire, at 3,55mm for the Airsporter spring and 3,5 for the meteor spring.
Has anyone on here tried them?

Yes, in particular the Meteor springs. I've used them in Cometa 400, various SMK (BAM), notably the xs19 and 20. The 12.5mm id fits quite well with the steel guides. In these cases, I had to take a coil off as they were making 12ft/lb+

Protek lists them as 12mm ID?

I've had about 6 of their Meteor springs now and all were 12.5mm. Manufacturing tolerances? ;-)

Maybe? Have you measured the wire diameter?

Just measured at 3.2mm dia, which would explain the 12mm drift to 12.5mm.

I've had the AS spring recently, basically because I wanted a standard spring. Shot a few hundred pellets with no problems so far.

Makes the spring sound much more suited for the Meteor.
The 3,5mm wire/12mm ID they are stating is much too stiff in my opinion.
