lesson to self, ask for a condition report before bidding

having landed a rather cheap BSA improved model B, I collected to find that the pictures hadn't shown that someone had gouged the stock to fit presumably a peep sight, and then removed it at some point. leaving a big unsightly gash in the top of the stock.

    so what to do?

    1. leave it?
    2. try to find a peep sight to fit in the gap?
    3. graft a piece of wood into the hole?
    4. find another stock?

Not uncommon to find one like this. Some money orientated dealers deliberately remove the sights and sell separate to maximise what they can make. I have a couple like that and have been trying to get the correct peeps at a reasonable price for ages.

Going back to the original title, Yes, you're not alone. In this new age of internet bidding the auctioneers need to get their act sorted out. Crap photo's and ambiguous descriptions should be a thing of the past especially when considering the near criminal buyers commission being charged.

And yet, people bid, and no doubt the auctioneer tells the seller who lost out on higher bids because bidders couldn’t see the condition of the item that it sold for a fair price.
    Morally flawed

sorry misread your original post, I'll email you a pic as I'm useless at understanding how to do picture sharing. Feel free to share them on here if you wish

Would be interesting to see pictures of the stock. I have one with a bit of the stock removed like you describe, and wonder if this was a standard modification?
