    lightning spring

    hi
stripped my lightning xl today and fited a chambers standard tunning kit.
my question is the spring that came with the chambers kit is slightly longer than the old spring about 1".i counted the coils and they both have 33,just the new sprimg seemed to have slightly more space inbertween each coil, is this normal?

Not unusual, you'll probably find that once you have used the new spring for a while, it wil have set at more or less the same pitch as the one you have replaced.

cheers mate ,you seem to know a fare bit about airguns, the only other thing was that i could not fit the top hat as it would be pressing directly onto the rear of the piston seal, and when cocked possibly forcing it off?

    Hi Steve,

A mere novice compared to many on here.....

Without seeing your installation it's difficult to suggest what to do with the top hat bearing on the rear of the piston seal.

Having said that, the spring normally bears on the piston weight washers, why no refit one or two of those to take the strain? When fitting a ram to a lightning the washers have to come out all together and I haven't had any problems with the piston seal becoming dislodged by the pressure of the ram.

the so called piston seal was infact the bottom of the spring liner, its amazing what you can see with a torch.
