The owner was in drink, come again?
So, does this mean every time we move kit from our house to the car to go shooting we can expect a visit?

I get it if it was uncovered (it doesn't say....) but if a curtain-twitcher gets offended at the idea of "that bloke down the street goes out shooting" and reports you/me, even if it was in a case when we take it into the house, it's the twitcher's heresay report that they're acting on. If you have a drink or two after getting home when the knock at the door occurs, what's the outcome?
Joy....

The owner was in drink, come again?
Some quality reporting there. Got job opportunity boy written all over it.

Smell my cheese
sounds like mistic meg works for the papers now, half a story will generate a load of old tripe i bet by 6pm he was running round the village brandashing beer bottles jesturing shooting stances ! radio and press leave a lot to be desired im afraid ...
The person who sold an airgun to someone who's drunk should be prosecuted.
As for the reporting, the police are doing what has become normal procedure where airguns are concerned. Scaremongering.
Didn't anyone get the memo, if your a gun owner your not allowed to drink alcohol, public safety an all that
John
Law of any kind only affects those willing to abide by it.
Just my opinin,
it looks like the police seized the ''reporters'' spell checker too.
Anyway it's an easy thing to imply that someone is ''in'',sorry been drinking,
was he given a breath test for being in charge of his sofa?
It doesn't say he has a history of being drunk in the street.
Or maybe it was taken for his own and others safety .
Another drunk with an airgun.
https://twnews.co.uk/gb-news/communi...-air-rifle-man
Armed cops raced to a street in Dumfries and sealed it off amid fears of a gunman following reports of shots being fired.
However, the incident turned out to be drunken Kenneth Darby firing an empty air rifle which caused loud bangs and prompted terrified calls to police.
Darby, 44, of Rashgill, Locharbriggs, fired the gun after drinking four bottles of wine.
Maybe he was reported for having driven home drunk & having possession of the "weapon" was used as the reason to nick him.
maybe kids in the house & no secure storage.
Also there is NO legal requirement for an airgun to be covered
It's a Home Office recommendation, not a law, although many police forces treat it as law.

Sounds more plausible.......
Well, it's a "Weapon" innit ? Hack was even able to fit in the word "multiple"- which all journos like now - which was nice ...
The implications behind this are significant: although the reporting is leaving a lot to be desired, if he'd been shooting in the street they would have gone to town on it. Being drunk at home isn't a crime - yet.
Regardless of whether this guy's an upright citizen who happens to like a bevy or two or a right scunner with previous, there does not appear to be any legal reason why the rifle was seized. Have the local plod overstepped their remit in wanting to be seen as doing the right thing?
.
Jerry
There's definitely possible reasons. I could name a couple to start with but wouldn't want to cast aspersion that they apply to people involved in this matter. You might also consider that although the rifle was in his possession there were other occupants of the household.
We do not know the full story . He could be a violent offender and had weapons offences on his record in the past.
He may have done time inside
Quote
Possessing or using air weapon if sentenced to 3 months or more in custody: 3 months imprisonment and/or £2,500 fine.
He may have had it removed due to the above .
There could be any number of reasons that the press has not been told about.
