    Old BSA

Hi all, a friend of mine has an old BSA that he’s just dug out of his loft and was wondering what model it is and how old it’s likely to be plus any other interesting info on it. I’ve got very little idea about air guns of that kind of vintage and bow to your collective superior Knowlage. Seems I can’t attach pics for some reason so all I can give you is a serial number S43489 Lincoln Jeffries perhaps?
    Thanks
    Ben 😊

I respectfully suggest 1929. The S prefix standard pattern didn't come about until after the First World War.
Consequently not a Lincoln Jeffries pattern.

Resources state that the first pre-WW1 BSA/LJ to be fitted with the rather unsuccessful double sear modification and consequently having an S prefix to the Ser No was S51985. Post WW1, all the BSA Standard air rifles carried an S Ser No prefix from 1919-1936. so S43489 would seem to be a post WW1 BSA Standard. Just to confirm this, the pre WW1 air rifles had bayonet or side latch cocking lever releases and the post WW1 rifles had a button at the end of the cocking lever.
    Hope this helps.
