    HW100KT seems inconsistent

    Good evening all,

I hope you have enjoyed the weekend.

I managed to have an hour in the garden with my new rifle having set up my FX chronograph.
I am a little concerned with the result, see below. The rifle was filled to 200bar and this was the second magazine through it. I left around 10 seconds in-between shots. Comments please.

Try different pellets. I did a test with an HW80, best variation was 3.5 fps, worst 17 fps.

I'd say pellets too, I use Weihrauch F&T Specials.

    Thanks Gents.

I have been using 4.51 pellets (air arms and JSB).
I have ordered a few different 4.52 and 4.53 tins to try.
    Will report back.

If your looking for consistent result you have to actually weight the pellets which will probably half your deviation. Pellets out the tin are fine for checking it's legal, but for meaningful results they vary too much to be of anything other than a guide. Try weighing a mags worth and compare it to what you have done, other pellets or batches will also give different results, but once you have done this you will legitimately know if your guns in need of a service and the reg adjusted.

I've just done a quick calculation - with your figures and pellets you say your using your running too close to the limit, and at 803fps/8.4gn your over it. if that single pellet was 8.7gm you would be doing 12.45fpe, and if it was only 8.1gn then you would be at a healthy 11.6fpe - so you can see how big a difference it makes in your situation as you may need this turned down a bit

    A quick update.
Three different types of pellets purchased. AA fields 4.52, JSB exacts 4.42 and HW F&T specials 4.53

All have improved the consistency the best string below using the F&Ts

Is this about right for the H100KT?

I'd be happy with those on an HW100

You could spend a small fortune trying to get tighter figures, but in the real world you will not notice any difference in POI with those figures at air gun distances unless your getting into bench rest or target shooting, in which case you would have a difference type of gun.

Spend the time on pellets and practice as it will give a better return than chasing a tighter spread

PS - your still running either close to or over the limit with this

Thanks for the info. At 8.44gr it is too close to the limit. I will have to return it to the gun shop. It's a shame as I don't really want to be without it and it is only a month old!

Should I ask for a replacement?

    Regards

I don't know how they re supplies these days but when I got mine a few years back they had a reputation for being full of grease which when cold was too thick and gummed up the works a bit effecting consistency. I had mine degreased and tuned to 11.5ftp. I need to spend some time and money getting pellet choice sorted because my Mk1 Rapid beats in for accuracy.

Show them your figures and just ask them to turn it down a touch, perhaps call them first to make sure they have a gun smith to do it, but they should be able to do this the same day and give you it back
