Stirrup pump help please
First time using a pump...I have assembled the pump, connected it and the gauge goes up on the pump as I pump but not seen the gauge on the gun go up....its hard to pump and when I disconnect there's a lot of pressure somewhere as it releases a lot of air at that point....am I doing something wrong?
Thank you

the pressure in the pump has to be greater than the pressure in the gun in order to start filling ! reaching that pressure can be hard work

Thank you, just watched a video and I see what you mean...wow this isn't going to be easy!

Does the gun need to be cocked as in ready to fire?

If the gun is empty some need to be cocked to start the fill, others simply cannot be pumped from empty as the flow is not fast enough for them to seal.
You need to pressurise the pump & hose to match the pressure already in the gun at that point as you pump again extra pressure in the hose will force the valve open, but as the pressures equalise the valve spring closes the gun until the next pump stroke opens it again.
How easy it is depends on your size/build or strength, the best way is to pump by bending at the knee & using your body weight, like doing squats, rather than trying to use your shoulders/arms alone.
I'd shoot it down to 120bar or so, if the rifle has a gauge.
And there's a release valve on the pump to vent the pressure in the hose before you disconnect.

Thank you, I didn't realise you had to build the pressure prior to the gun taking any air, I got there in the end but it is harder than I anticipated

i made the same mistake when i first got mine a long time ago
