    Webley Vulcan.22 service kit

Hi everyone and happy Christmas. I am looking to service my old Webley Vulcan .22 but am struggling to find a parts kit. Can anyone help please? It was the first rifle I ever brought (age 14) and now at 52 I want to start using again for a few rats and plinking. Thanks for your anticipated help. It’s been about 10 years since I fired a pellet thought it but has been kept in my rifle cabinet with my powder burners and needs to be used again! Kind regards, Marc

SKO 36 or buy what individual parts you need.

You have several options, depending on the state of the parts in the gun. You'll need to examine the breech seal, spring, spring guide and piston washer+ damper disc. The original PTFE washer is really stable, and you often can use it if you are careful when opening the gun for servicing.
It may be difficult to source all the original parts, but some are still available, and there are aftermarket replacements for piston seals, breech seals and springs.
I like to replace the PTFE+cushion washer with parachute type piston seals, because I like the firing behaviour of those. There are several options for piston seals.

Chambers do a service kit, and have some replacements parts:

Knibbs has some parts too, but you'll have to pick out the parts separately, as they dont offer a service kit:

You can also go with a Maccari spring/guide kit. I find this kit to work really well with a modern parachute style piston seal when the seal is sized properly:

The Australian seal guy makes piston seals and breech seals:

Thank you for the links and advice, the rifle is in good condition but feel confident in ensuring getting the seals etc that will keep it running well for the next 30+ years 😎

Hope the refresh goes well, Marc, and the Vulcan delivers many more years of sterling service and smiles.

Will be interesting to hear which parts you go for, and your experience with their performance!

I have ordered the Chambers service kit with instructions, without them it could be destruction😉 I am ok at technical stuff if I have instructions. I have been playing with powder burners for so long now and forgot how much I loved the old Vulcan especially shooting rats on the farm. Time to put it to use again but wanted to give it a bit of a overhaul. Bit like buying a car and doing the cam belt just in case. The original rifle was more than powerful enough for rats, squirrel and pigeon, even rabbit if not too far. Not the same as the modern rifles but good enough. I did have a Theoben sirocco Grand Prix .177 but sold it to a great guy on this forum but somehow I’ve never been able to let the Webley go.

Hi again, I have seen it is possible to replace the spring with a gas ram, I have been looking at them but they don’t do one specifically for the Vulcan (probably due to its age) do you know if the Vulcan spring is comparable with one of the following?
Eclipse, Patriot, Xocet, stingray & Omega.

The Xocet, Stingray and Omega are similar to the Vulcan powerplant.

I'd stay away from gas rams and go for a set of bespoke delrin guides, but thats just my personal opinion.

Delrin guides? Do you have anymore information or link?
I have just read a piece that said you need to modify the spring fuide to fit a gas ram and don’t really want to hack it about. The new service kit has arrived from Chambers so I’ll stick with that. Thanks for the advice about the gas ram. Reason I thought about it was I had one in my theoben.

I'm with evert on the subject of spring vs gas ram, as would many people. The Theoben that you owned was designed and built as a gas ram from day one. Even so, a fair few people have, over the years, converted various gas ram rifles to spring and prefer them. Sticking with the spring gives you lots more options and flexibility when it comes to set-up and tuning.

The Delrin guides that evert mentions are synthetic guides (Delrin is a brand name, I believe, the material is acetal). One for the rear of the spring and a shorter one, called a "top hat" for the front of the spring. If these fit correctly (most people go for a firm sliding fit into the spring) they bestow added smoothness and refinement to the cocking and firing cycles and are considered very desirable.

I'm not sure what your service kit contains. If you wanted to go down the guide set route, your best option would be to have the guides made to fit your individual spring for the best results.

Tuning a springer can be very rewarding. There will be guides (sic!) on here and on various other places on the 'net. Don't be afraid to shout up on here for any further pointers. Hope this helps a little.

Great reply from Tony as usual, only need to add that early Vulcans has a steel guide which has to be removed to add a delrin/acetal/POM guide.
You can buy guides separately or in a kit (like the ARH/JM kit) or you can have guides made to fit the spring you intend to use.
