The under barrel stamp is usually the tap number, so the correct tap can be re-fitted after blueing, interesting it is also the weapon number on yours , if you pop the tap out and look at the small end of the taper, you might see if this is the case, that would be a first for me at any rate if all three numbers matched!

Hi Paul, a good screwdriver and about 10 seconds of your time will do it

When it is out, put a tiny dab of grease on the spring / plunger (not the tap tapered bit) as this makes the action nice and snug down the screws nicely on re-fitting, the number of these I have seen with loose tap plates / stock bolts / trigger guards is amazing.

    Hello Ed,

No number on tap. Have greased up the spring plunger. Doing jobs like this makes you realise just how fantastically they were built.
    Thanks for the tip.

Some more learned members will answer for sure. Could be proof marks?

Your under barrel n trigger block numbers are matching is good as over time people swap parts ect

I believe the other marks like the V ✔️ Letters & numbers are inspection marks, put on after production processes were completed as the gun went along the production line & each inspection point had a different stamp

Just a gentle word to the wise If one chooses not to lubricate a tap taper, be aware that it could "pick up".

If it should , then the owner and his gun will be somewhat galled..

I agree totally. A taper plug tap will often seize if assembled dry. all taper fits will as anyone who has had to take flywheels of old motorcycles will testify . I always use a graphite based gas cock lubricant on mine. That is specifically made for the job of sealing and lubricating taper fits. To enable the tap barrel to revolve, it MUST 'float' on lubricant otherwise it will seize or gall if metal to metal contact is made

I run my BSA's with mineral oil on the washers so the tap gets the benefit of the mist....I do a few drops every tin of pellets like I have since a nipper

Right then, here goes ... I am NOT a trader or a dealer, I am FAR from financially stable, BUT really want this for my collection (yep am an anorak, lol). I have £180.00 and that's it. If this will see it secure posted to me in Essex, consider it deal done. Same sent by PM. Atb: GWB.
