On 10m PCP’s the barrel proper is fitted inside a much longer tube. Manufacturers claimed it was advantageous for accuracy for the pellet to enter “still” air when it exited the barrel. The tube is also needed though to maintain a suitable sight radius. If you turn a drilled plastic plug with a cone on the end and insert this inside the tube it quietens them quite a bit. I made the plug from red plastic so it was easily visible. It had two O rings fitted to keep it in the barrel and the end was threaded M8 a little way so a bolt could be inserted to remove it if required.

I did this many years ago on the FWP 600 SSP series and the newer 700 and 800 series and it almost made them silent.

I fitted the plastic cone to my old Anschütz 2002 so that must have been well over 15 years ago. I think I may still have one for my P700 somewhere.

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.
