    Giffard knowledge

Hi, I’m interested in purchasing a Giffard rifle or maybe even a pistol.

Is there a good source of reference I can tap into to bring me up to speed?

    Thanks,

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

It may be worth getting in touch with Binners on here as he recently offered me a lovely Giffard rifle but they are not for me at the moment. Not sure if he still has it?

    Good luck.

Currently looking for Baikal Makarov pistols with the following prefixes to the serial number: 98, T01, T09, T21, T22
Prefer boxed or cased but will consider loose examples too.

Like you say John, some very realistic prices. which you might even be able to negotiate down a bit. they are great rifles of quality and lovey to shoot.

We had a two Giffard .177 rifle shoot out this week at our range

I was very pleased at the range and accuracy of mine as I have never really pushed it over 20 yards before.

    One of my favourite guns

That includes fancy modern ones !

Once you have your fire extinguisher and adapter sorted you are in for a lot of fun.

Thanks John, I’ll do just that.

Where do I stand legally with a 8mm rifle, do I need to get a variation to shoot one?

    Thanks,

    Richard

To use it you will have to get a variation and have it put on your ticket. therein lies a problem. Doing so will massively devalue the gun and take it out of the hands of collectors forever as once a 'specially dangerous air gun' is registered, it can never be reduced to the status of a collectors item or Sub 12 airgun.
It is of course almost impossible (Section 7?) to register a pistol for use.

    You can own under s.58

If you have all the gear to shoot one, you might potentially be in trouble (I say might because you could just have the charging gear to test that the cartouche seals)

If you have a .177 they are under 12 ftlbs. If you had a .177 and another then your charging gear (to use for the .177) would not of itself imply you were shooting the 8mm.
    Morally flawed

Only if it has never been on ticket. If it is held on FAC, there is no legal way to down grade one. Air weapons are treated differently to powder burners due to the specially dangerous rules.

    Hi Mr Nut,

What sort of accuracy can I expect at 20 yards?
