Sounds like a straight grip senior which are early prewar
There will be a little rotary safety switch and wooden grips if its what it sounds like
Hi all, looking for history, i have been left a webley senior boxed, serial number on it is S3964, on the end of the barrel is S127. It looks odd as the handle looks like its near a right angle to the barrell

Gun control means using both hands.
The straight grip Senior was made between 1930 and 1935 and approximately 7000 were made, so your model is probably from around 1933. The number on the end of the barrel will be S (for Senior) and 177 for calibre. Grips should be black Vulcanite with no safety. The fact that it has a box is a big plus in terms of rarity and value, assuming it is the correct box. All details from Gordon Bruce's "Webley Air Pistols".
