    Scorpion pistol with stippled thumbrest

Another Scorpion pistol turned up I bought it for parts, to complete a pistol in my collection with a modified frame...
But when the pistol arrives, I find that the tumbrest is stippled, something I have never seen on my other Scorpions.
It seems like the stippling is original with the casting of the plastic frame, and not a modification.

The gun is a .177" with a PA serial nu,ber prefix, and has scope grooves plus the later "kemetal" plastic sights.

Does anyone know anything about this thumbrest stippling? Does it tell us anything about when the gun was made?

I had one like that too.... don't think I've still got it, but I thought it was nice.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Yep, they are quite nice guns
Checked my other Scorpions, and in all other details, it is identical to the other mk2 I have, except for the thumbrest stippling.
The serial number is a bit later than the other mk2, so it may have been a production change in the frames?

Apparently, Bowkett tuned them as well.

From the research I have undertaken and models examined, very early Scorpions had plain thumbrests. The stippling was a late 1970s feature and was gone by the early 1980s. Must admit I like it.

    Kind regards,

    John
Currently looking for Baikal Makarov pistols with the following prefixes to the serial number: 98, T01, T09, T21, T22
Prefer boxed or cased but will consider loose examples too.
