    Registering an air rifle

    Hi
My brother in law needed an air rifle for pest control at his workplace, which they paid for.
He had to "register " with the shop he bought from, and now he's worried that when he leaves this company, and leaves the rifle behind is he still responsible for it.
What does he need to do to cover himself.
    Cheers

No need to worry, when a shop sells a gun they have to register who it's sold to, there is no need to register a private sale or transfer (eg me and my brother have both bought guns from shops as presents for each other). So if he is contacted about the gun after he no longer has it it won't be a problem.

Nothing, there's nothing to 'cover' for/from unless it's FAC.

I can only ever see the registering being used if someone was selling airguns to kids. If the police found the common denominator in confiscated guns was one particular person they might have an interest.

If your brother in law emails his manager and says it has been left it with a named person (and copies that person in) he's covering his back in the case of misuse or in case it goes missing.

Thanks for that..that's what I thought, but always best to cover your back.

The few times plod asked us to look up an airgun in our register was when they'd seized one and wanted to find out if it was originally sold to their perp or who the original owner was in case it was stolen. Always seemed reasonable to me.
