I'm throwing this out to the collective as we're struggling. Jane has been with us since the start and prior to the club starting hadn't previously shot. Using various borrowed rifles her scores have steadily improved but covid put the brakes on freely exchanging guns during a meeting. Ever since she has been using my crosman 2000 co2 target rifle, which frankly she doesn't get on with.
Put an s200 in her hands and she's shooting in the 38s,39s and 40s. So she has the potential.
Finding a suitable rifle has been challenging and many have been tried.
The requirements as I see them are:
Self contained, no bottle or pump.
Co2 is an option.
Dioptre sights of a reasonable quality.
Moderate cocking effort, a hw55t was too much last night.
Medium weight, the crosman is too light, the hw55 was too heavy. Weight, we can play with to some extent by modification, but ideally, needs to be right.
177 calibre.
Power in the 6ftlbs ball park and no higher than 7.5.
Reaosnable quality, I don't want her put off by owning something that will be unpleasant to shoot or inherently inaccurate.
Suggestions on a virtual post card please.
Thanks
Dave

QB 78 Match :-

Weighs 6.16Lbs.
My mate Martin (with the performing Bulldog) has one and I was quite impressed with it, Dave.
All the best Mick
The Hw30s is a great performer.
A chap who helped me sort out my Bsa Hornet, runs a Scout group and they use the QB78 match rifles .A reliable and capable gun in his opinion.
Les..
Hi Dave, a Diana model 72 recoil less rifle, if you can find one they are quite rare. small and light just right for a lady or junior shooter.

Thanks for the suggestions, my only reservation with the qb78 is that it's advertised at 7.5 ftlbs which is the club limit. Given that it's quoting 40 shots from 2 cartridges, I'm thinking it's definitely going to be in that ball park. My crosman is doing 60 plus on one. Other than that, looks ideal.
Assume these are quite simple to adjust (answers by pm please to avoid breaking forum rules)?
The 30 is also a good suggestion, but as Harvey says, it may just be too much. It would be good if she could try one.

£210 at Solware, though they've shown the wrong gun on their website. :-

That's where my mate Martin bought his from --- he only went in for some pellets.
For adjustment advice and trigger tuning the UKChinese airgun forum has a wealth of information on tuning the QB range.

Walther LG55, without the barrel sleeve, and, if necessary, with the lead weight in the fore-end removed (replace with a block of plastic drilled to fit the spring/thing on which the cocking link slides.
Surely it has to be the 30s
I used one to great effect on bell targets - you could shoot them all day long
Peep rear (williams) and weihrauch blade inserts make it ideal
the co2 rifles and blindingly simple to adjust Dave.
At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, an L pattern ?
Otherwise HW30S is a solid choice..
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.
An L pattern would of course be the best choice John, open sights are out though.
The 30s would be my choice of the 2 others suggested, but not sure how Jane will get on cocking it without her being able to try one.
Thanks for all the advice so far, got your pm Neil.
