    Tuning a Britannia

    Did a Video on a sympathetic Britannia tune which may be of interest, all doable back in the day.
    Ended up with an extremely sweet shooting 8ftlbs.

    Thanks to shedtuner on advice about balancing transfer port/ piston weight.

    Excellent video, just had a chance to purchase a Brittainia in the States this week. Only $2800! Guess I won’t be tuning one quite yet. But your videos on this rifle have kept it high on my wish list. Not sure I would be brave enough or have the skills to do what you did? I could easily empty the beer can?

    That sounds a bit pricey…$500+ Would be more like it for a scruffy Britannia but probably not that common in the States… but if anyone can find one I’m sure you can.

    I bet if you ‘empty’ the beer can first it should give you the courage to take it apart

    Seriously though, they are the least daunting vintage airgun to take apart.
    Hope you find one.

    I tried something similar with my Webley service a while back…but I only got as far as sleeving the TP which softened the shot cycle but reduced the power. Super accurate though.
    I’ll experiment with piston weight as I did on this Britannia and see if it can bring the power up.

    Prefer boxed or cased but will consider loose examples too.

    It did indeed. I've never quite got the hang of the coke tin sleeve when I tried this in the past but I am very ham fisted when it comes to anything beyond the very basics of maintenance.

    I have a similar aperture sighted Britannia (with a standard bead foresight) that shoots very well indeed. It is the one featured in the NZAG article you have previously referenced and I was very fortunate in obtaining it some years ago.
