Why did BSA call .177 bore Number 4 on the Standard rifle ?
They were all standards at that stage, so for example "The BSA Standard Air Rifle" (light pattern), So "Standard" followed by whichever sub type.
I recall the no 4 was a 43" (and a tad) length .177
This IIRC eventually replaced the 45 inch "standard" CS type, and was known as the Club no.4 (I think).
