Quality engraving.

I was quite taken by the Whitworth, I had a copy of a big glossy gun book at aged 13 or so, not 100% about the title now, possibly author was a H Daniels or similar , but a book full of stuff like Napoleon's engraved pistols and rifles and other famous and historic guns through the ages.

Each section started with a double colour plate, the Western section had an engraving of a civil war sharpshooter up a tree, with a tube scoped (probably Sharps / Stevens) rifle.

Then years later Josey Wales uses a similar rig to cut the rope on the ferry
