Are mildots all that usefull on .177?

    Hi,
My mildot Hawke scope works for me on my .22 as I can use half, one or two dots for various ranges but in .177 the same scope everything is less than one dot so I dont really see the point in it.
    What do you think?

Well I only do HFT but I found the same. For my .22 it was of some use, but .177 as you say I never come down as far as the first dot. Then again I only shoot on 6.5 mag and always have so it they might come into play on a higher mag I don’t know

8-45 yards,11.5 ftlb. chairgun works it out as real flat up to 45 (HFT max range) and then it starts to drop off quite fast (where dots would be usefull I think) , but I never need to shoot that far so is there any real reason to try and use them?

If that is right i will get me one of those .177 things then. I use a .22 and have just started HFT , i love it but most of the guys ( and girls ) use .177 and i did not really get why?? ( i dont get out much ) BUT i think a single shot gun would be just the job in .177 in that case. I use most of the mill dots when i shoot so less would be far better...Or have i over simplified this too much?????

Well none of my 177's are "real falt" from 8-45yds. Wish they were!

At 8 yds i find im having to shoot above poi about 4 mildots to put pellet through pellet and at 45 yds about 2 mildots above <or so>, near enough dead on from 15-35yds ... but now they are bringing in teh ewul 15mm targets think ill have to be a lot more accurate than aim and fire

Thats using Bsa super10 bullbarrel carbine and ramsbottom 3-9 mildot ir scopes <not the best but they do alright for me>

Depends on what mag you shoot on with most scopes, the bigger the mag the more use the mildots i've found

Very true... it also depends on the spacing in the individual scope, they're not all the same. Another usefful trick is, if you double the mag, you double the mildots.
eg, 1/2 md at 6X will be 1 md at 12X, etc.

on my 177 S200 the range of dots used on 24 mag is between 2 down and 1.5 up...thats on my nikko nighteater which has notoriously wide dot spacing...my deben has tighter dots so i anticipate even more would be used but i intend to junk midots in favour of bdc so i dont have to think about zoom anymore.

Very useful if you know the range . My Nikko Sniper 10x with a thirty yard zero is bang on one mildot at 45 yards. Makes 45 yarders easy if I know they are 45 yards

    7 yard 3 mils
    10 1
    14 zero
    20 .5
    25 .5
    30 .5
    35 zero
    40 .5
    45 1

All ranges rounded to nearest full or half dot, (45 yard is actually .8)
