    Webley Service Air Rifle Advice

I'm contemplating getting a Webley Service Air Rifle
I have no experience of them whatsoever, so which is the best model go for? What are the common faults and things to look for?
I want one with a flip up peep sight - were these original fitment?
And I assume the .22 caliber barrels are 5.6mm?

If you get can hold of a copy of 'The Webley Air Rifle' by Christopher Thrale, all your questions will be answered. Protek Supplies of Bognor may a copy.

The most common and cheapest is the third series in .22 and yes peep sights are standard.

Look out for genuine Webley barrels.

    This is a second series

    Three variants

Although the purist will say there are 5 series, I go with the main 3.

Me too, although Chris will disagree.
Just in case anyone is not sure, the photographs in Binner's post show the 1st. series at the top.

Thanks, so is there anything in particular I should look for in terms of problems / wear?
Barrel pivot obviously, what about the removable barrel mechanism or the barrel lock up?

The removable barrel sleeve should not have much play in it and the push to release lock button on the left side should operate correctly. As long as the breech lock bolt doesn't go fully over to the right, it should be fine, otherwise a new breech seal may be required.
