Theoben Imperator SLR88 and Theoben SLR88 Imperator Ultra Carbine

Many people have never seen the two rifles together, so hope these photos are helpful.I’ve been lucky enough to have owned these two for many years now. When you compare the two rifles not only is the barrel shortened by a number of inches, they also reduced the size of the stock by a couple of inches as well. The end result is a super compact rifle that has superb balance. It is also shorter than a Theoben Fenman by quite a margin to give people an idea against a more readily available compact Theoben rifle.I have all my SLR’s fitted with period Tasco scopes that were used by Theoben back in the late 80’s. There were around 20 Ultra Carbines made, which is less than the Theoben SLR88 FT.

There is just something special about the Ultra Carbine, the engineering and quality of the wood is the same as the others generally, that were handmade in the late 80’s. For me it’s how well they shoot, as you pick them up the weight seems to melt away as the balance is so good. This is surely one of those special 80’s rifles that will never be repeated.

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

It’s the only one I’ve never owned, would love to have one now. I have the Grand Prix version which is the thumbhole of the full length version. It’s just lovely.
