Hi, hope you can help
An old woman has given me an old .177 Diana to get rid of.. it’s in excess of 60 yrs old and I’m looking to identify the actual model, get an approximate age & value...
It shoots beautifully, it has good compression & the breach seals well..
Any help would be much appreciated.
Unable to attach a pics, so please forward your tel number or email address & I’ll forward the pics..

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.

It's a Diana 27, 1920s or early '30s. Not in great condition. Nice chequering. It's quite unusual to see chequering on these.

Unusual to see chequering.
Unusual rearsight, most pre war ones seem to be of the spring steel variety:

With the barrel broken have a look under the breech block, there should be a date stamp.
I think we paid £100 for Mariana’s one which is stamped 1928:

Very accurate rifles.
Cheers,

Brilliant, really informative…
It looks like an early rifle but has no date on the breach and as you said the foresight and stock is very different to the ones in the pics.
It shoots amazingly for its age, nice weight/pull to the trigger and really accurate..
I’ve refurbished a few rifles but I’m really unsure to how far you go when restoring such an old rifle..
I have more pics if anyone’s wants the add to the info given, I can send via WhatsApp or text on request.
Guys, your help is very much appreciated..

You do as little a possible, depending on condition.
An often used approach is boiling the steel parts in water, turns any rust into black rust bluing, and then carding off remaining loose particles with 0000 grade wire wool.
This is perhaps the gentlest approach, and preserves any remaining original finish.
Too many airguns!
Many thanks
