Could it have been a Norica Massimo...its the only one I know with a vented rib?? It fits your time frame not sure about german stamps though...
Hi,
This is a long shot as my memory is a bit sketchy but I am trying to identify a rifle that I once owned back in the 1990's. I purchased a break barrel .22 rifle from Jeans Military Memories in east Lancs just because it looked different from anything that I had seen before. They actually had several of these.
The rifle had a long reinforcing vented "bar" on top of the barrel like one sometimes sees on a shotgun and was stamped made in West Germany (could have been east!). So this would make it pre 1989. Other than its distinctive look I don't remember much else about it, I don't think it even had a makers name on it. Not long after purchasing it I lent it a friend of a friend and eventually forgot about it. Now I would like to locate one of these just for old times sake, it was not a particularly accurate rifle as I recall.
So, not much to go on but if anyone has seen one I'm sure you would remember it-hopefully better than I can!
Thanks for the help.

AC, you may be correct but I thought mine had an all wooden stock. Excellent skills recalling this Norica. I don't think that I have ever seen one before but it looks unique. I think I want one!
I am pretty sure it had the made in East/West Germany stamps on but it was along time ago now.
Sadly I am at work and can't look on any gun sites (strangely the BBS works) but I will certainly look up the Norica when I get home.
Hi guys
I m thinking its a UMAREX WILDLIFE - right era and country of manufacture
STAY SAFE ALL

Gotta admit I'd never heard of the Norica Massimo, and don't see it in any of my reference books. But Tom Gaylord did a nice illustrated review and test of it several years back:

Me too Mally! That shop had a bit of everything, medals, replicas, militaria and air guns. I bought the unknown rifle this thread is about from them and a few Gamos. The strangest one being the statical.
Where on earth would one start to look for a Norica Massimo? Did they ever see these shores. I know there was the large Norica Maxima (?) not the new one an older version that was nice...
