Hawke Chairgun Pro exterior ballistics programme

New computer and now of course this great little programme which I am familiar with- at last- doesn't work!

It complains that I need Java.

"No JVM could be found on your system"

I think it wants me to download Java onto my computer BUT I have an idea that Java might not be safe anymore.

Any computer experts there like to give me an opinion please?

It's really a great little program!

    Thanks D

Chairgun needs Java to run, if you had it previously you also had java, so what's the problem with getting it again ?????

I've put it on my Win 11 pc with no issues.

I wrote ChairGun for Hawke Optics (Deben) eight or maybe nine years ago.
Since that time, it has neither been updated nor has it had the (several) outstanding bugs fixed.
The later Java versions have made subsequent development virtually impossible - even if I had the motivation or permission to do so.

However, since the untimely death of George Conway last year, I've taken over the development of his MERO ballistic application which is perhaps a little more focused than the ChairGun implementation.
MERO, as well as George's other ballistic desktop applications, are available for Mac (Intel and Apple Silicon), Windows and Linux from HERE and a simplified version can be found at the Android Play Store. All applications run directly on the chosen operating system and hardware - no intermediate Java layer required - and are supplied free of charge, advertising, marketing and nag-ware.

Since MERO is still in serial development and is updated fairly regularly with new features (and the occasional bug-fixes), it might be a more sustainable alternative in long term.
