To wander OT, i'm not so sure it's advisable if you have anything on the end of the barrel, and i would be interested to see if the rubber provided enough seal or indeed if the air in the barrel subsequently was at a high enough pressure to hold back the cylinder in comparison to the pressure curve a pellet would produce. I guess you'd have to know a lot about breech closing times and pressures in airguns to be able to tell how good a practice it is for the gun.
