Hi All, Advice on Getting a Shoot

Hi All, If you were me, how would you go about getting or finding a shoot, the terminalogy maybe wrong but basically I will need to find somewhere, so that I can go shooting, the air rifle I will be using will be under the legal limit.

You looking to hunt or shoot targets?
One is hard to get, the other is easy.

    Persistance is the word.

This subject has been covered on a number of occasions, so if you use the search facility you will find numerous threads which include letters and shooting agreements which you will need.

Unfortunatly, it is usually a case of doing a lot of door knocking and hearing the word NO, but it is worth it in the end.

Cheers Gary and Rusham, What kind of word would I need to type in the search facility, to read what has been written before. ATB. Reeco

Hi Marcus, Great idea, I have three golf courses around here all within a 20 minute drive, so I will send them a letter asking for either a meeting or permission to use the land. I suppose I am looking at before dawn and around dusk roughly. I will try the same thing with a couple of farms around here. ATB. Reeco

    Hi Reeco
Different people have different ideas but IMHO a personal visit is a better bet. People don't like effort - replying to a letter is effort.
Also - many people are wary of strangers with rifles. If you front up at least you have a chance of making a good impression

i agree with gary and marcus on this one mate. make a personal apperance. its much better. i got all five of my shoots in this way and if people are happy to let a long haired 15 year old with 4 pircings and one tattoo shoot it cant be too hard. also i know someone who sent out 40 letters and only got one shoot. mind you one is better than none

    start small
i found that we started doing shooting for an ex vet who had rabbit infestation problems -
this developed via word of mouth and we ended up leaving small
fliers (with my farther in law and mine details listing what we would legitmatley shoot - insurance cover etc) with him and people who contacted us this then developed and we now have pest control
on 3 farmers land 1 private shoot party and 2 stately homes
covering in excess of 3000 acres
i shoot every saturday and whenever i can during the lighter warmer
nights - my father in law who retired gets his Quad or landrover out
    every day!
some people have all the luck - but all things come to those who perserve
    and wait
good luck and i hope you get what you want

    Reeco.

I got to say this, mate.

It's nice to have a newbie who is so polite and courteous.
That is why folk on here will always help you with any problem you have.

A certain other member who has a bit more of a 'hairtrigger' () will never get the help that he may need.

    Keep it up.

Hi All, Thanks for all the info, I think I might try to say send 5 letters to farmers around here, and I will also speak to them face to face, that way then hopefully they can see I am genuine.

Snock TYVM for the kind words Mate, but all my life, I have always said please and thank you with a smile on my face, I have always stood up to give woman and pensioners my seat on buses and trains, even when they start telling me they don't want it lol but I insist, courtesy and respect doesn't cost a thing but yet it means so much.

Jackel, I hope it's a great game on Sunday, I hope we beat you lol but may the team who plays the best take the spoils, one thing is for sure, all the players on the pitch will be proud to wear the shirt of England and Wales.

I hope it's a tough physical battle with no injuries. I hope Dillialio plays as I like his no nonsense style of play, he doesn't know how to take a step backwards, and I respect him for that, are you sure he's not Welsh lol.
