    travelling to france

my brother in law is going to france for the summer to work , and is interested in taking his air rifle with him . Has anyone got any info on how the law lies as regards taking his gun into france and returning with it a few months later. any info would be gratefully appreciated.

    thanks

As Kyle says, this has been a regular lately. And the answer is that he can't as UK legal power is much higher than the French. There are also problems getting permission (government type) if not a resident.

Any form of hunting with air rifles is illegal in most regions of France.

In my experience, whatever you do on your own land is OK, unless your neighbours complain to the Mairie ... then you need to make a very good case, in very good french ... but there is no French law against using a .177 airgun.

Twenty-twos are different, as they are firearms, and require a permit. However, if you actually live in France, and pay your taxes in a rural area, you can get an FAC for a shotgun or a live .22 rifle quite simply, as long as you can put your own case in fluent french at the local Prefecture, with the support of the local Mayor, of course.

Easy peasy. It should cost you about three weeks, and twenty-quid in wine. Oh, how I wish I could bring my Remy back home.
