Gun oil and fine grade wire wool will do the job nicely and shouldn't need much effort if only light surface rust.

Aluminium foil and gun oil works well!
Oiled Scotchbrite also works well (the green kitchen scouring pads) I always spray em with wd40.
cheers guys! will need to touch up the bluing also any ideas, are the DIY kits any good? cheers
Try an oily rag first, if that fails I use the finest grade wire wool.

i used the little glass pot one my local gunshop had . cant remember the name though. its like a gel you rub on with a cloth then wipe off as it goes grey then wash off with a little water then use a little oil on a cloth and it comes up not too bad
p.s its called philips gun blue
