As part of my collection disposal, I am offering my Webley Oil Bottle @£450 including RMSD insured postage within the UK. SOLD
This was the first to appear on the market, having been found in a gun shop collection I purchased from the son of the owner of Cullens in Lee on Solent, although several other have since appeared, including two screw top bottle versions. I believe there are approximately 6 known examples including the screw top bottles, although there may well be others. These bottles are considerably more scarce than the Webley Valvespout oil can.
I also have the Webley foolscap sheet dated 1946 that verifies the temporary introduction of these bottles of oil, which will accompany the oil bottle if sold.
The bottle is exactly as found with contents, and the cork has not been removed.
As can be seen below, the labels are lightly oil stained and there is a small piece missing on the bottom left corner of the front label.

Did an oil can just sell for £450?
It's a lovely looking bottle. I bet the oil made the Mk 3 diesel like a Mercedes.
Thank you Sam99 you saved me from myself......!

Two screw top bottles? Do you know who has the other one David?
Kind regards,
John
Currently looking for Baikal Makarov pistols with the following prefixes to the serial number: 98, T01, T09, T21, T22
Prefer boxed or cased but will consider loose examples too.
Not being a 'serious' collector - I'm always amazed by the accessory marketplace and the depth of knowledge relating to such an innocuous item.
Great stuff & fascinating too
It's amazing when you think that a unique 200 year old sealed bottle of perfume made by Lord Byron, fully authenticated and carrying his personal seal, was valued at £400 on a TV programme today! Webley fans must be more passionate collectors than poetry buffs!
Resurrecting a year old thread I know, but I've recently been told of another sealed cork topped bottle, so that makes at least eight known examples.
