    Post Crossbow law?

what exactly is the law regarding the ownership and use of crossbows?

    ie.

    (1) are there power limitations on both standard and pistol crossbows?

    (2) are they acceptable for pest control?

    (3) is there any specific licencing required?

i'm sure there is more ground to cover than these points so it'd be great if someone could shed some light on the do's and don'ts

Yep, it's a big no no.
Unless you're in the USA, which we're not, thankfully.

    cheers lads

i still fancy one but since you can't hunt with em and i couldn't possibly use them on my club range, there's very little point.

You could join the NFAS, and shoot at one of their affiliated clubs.

Well according to an old (14th century i believe) law, you can shoot a Spaniard in the back from 40 yds on a Friday ( or summat like that).

But the question is do you need a game license for that or is it covered by Defra's general license?

The above is correct. One slight exception, if you want to shoot in a competition there is a draw weight limit of 95lbs for IAU and WCSA events. NFAS have a slightly different way of limiting the power (can't remember wording) but it's about the same as the others.

They are good fun but most of the commercial stuff is not up to much.

That sounds about right. I'm sure there was a law about spaniards and crossbows. Oh well, if it has an accent, pot it with a bow.
    Can't go wrong then.

Yeah, but I'm sure that there was a law down south about monkeys attacking frenchman. I'll definitely have to look that one up as I believe that if your monkey mauled a frenchman it could be hanged.
