Now sorted thanks due to WALTHER who is a gentleman to deal with. As well as suplying the 'Original model 25D 27 ....' he also provided me with a copy of the HW35 manual (which I already had but ...) which contained a copy of an interesting letter from the Home Office dated Aug. '69 plus a book I had not previously heard of - '1972 Catalogue' by D.R.Hughes which list his choice of airguns.

What a wonderful source of information this BBS is.

Home Office letter dated 11th August 1969. Address: Horseferry House, Dean Ryle Street, London S.W. With regards to a ASI Sniper (.22) and a HW35 (cal not stated but I suspect .22).

A few excerts from the A4 sized letter are, quote:
'The staff of the Home Office forensic laboratory who carry out these tests are fully alive to the facts that in certain circumstances like burning of oil or grease in the barrel a weapon can give an abnormally high muzzle velocity.

In Feb and May we drew the attention of chief officers of police to a number of weapons which have been tested in one of the Home Office Forensic science laboratories and found to be capable of energies in excess of the limits laid down in the rules.

    b) some specimens of the ASI Sniper are capable of exceeding the prescribed limit but most are well below it; and

    c) some specimens of the Weihrauch rifle have a capability below the prescribed limit, but most are capable of achieving energies well above it.
    '

I remember Optima of Bolton advertising in AGW that they had for sale a few HW35s that had been Home Office tested and some still had their H.O. labels attached.

I am, but i've had these from new, always been interested in guns of all types, obviously when you are younger air guns are usually your limit. i have around 200 + books covering all types of guns & shooting including a full set of gun digest from 1944 - 2007, now Ian has started my interest again as i said i had found another copy of D R Hughes 1972 catalogue, i have now found 73 & 74 as well.
