    Well....
Put the first pellet in my FAS 604 yesterday (not even zeroed yet), lined up on a 6yd target, straight through the 10 ring. Woo hoo thinks I - I'm going to enjoy this

Cock it for the second shot, pffht - burst an internal seal somewhere - no compression. Oh poo thinks I, got to work out how to take the flippin' thing apart now and fit a seal kit

Ah, the joys of old (ish) air pistols....

For your sight picture, you will probably find it better if you aim "sub six", with the 6 ring showing between the top of the front sight and the black. Trying to set the black on top of the front sight, you will get them both blending together due to refraction.

Zeroing. With a recoilless pistol, you could set it in a vice and zero it, but then, shooting offhand, would most certainly be shooting off centre, because everyone has a different "hold".

Assuming you are landing on the card, shoot 10 to 20 shots and try to make out if you have a group pattern (ignore the flyers). Try to bring the group to the centre of the target, a couple of clicks at a time. When reasonably centred, concentrate on reducing group size. As time goes on, re-centre the group. Do NOT aim at shooting tens, they will come automatically. Do NOT chase the bull with the sights after each group. Shoot groups and try to become consistent.

There's a lot of in-depth discussion by real experts, but they are quite happy to discuss with any interested shooters of any standard. Much the same as this board. Target Talk is run by Pilkguns, a US shop catering for target shooters up to Olympic level. LOTS of good info on their site, written by champions.

John is still recovering from the 44 (best ever by a mile. Infinite number of monkeys etc.)
44!! Nice one Roger, although I may be demanding a drugs test at the end if this continues! lol

Welcome aboard Bigwhiterabbit, your name has been added on the website.

    John and Petes scores

    Hi Graeme
Roger was on for a heck of a score but got a bit excited with the 44
Pete and i shot also our first rounds using the FAS 604's

    Pete; 39/37/41/44 =161
mine; 47/45/43/45 = 180 never to be repeated

Ken will shoot his Wednesday pm.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Because this thread is lengthy, I have not read every post, so if this next point has been covered already, then just ignore me:

Question for you and the rest of the guys
Can a shooter enter more than once but with a different gun for each entry??

This would enable some of us to get out of the cupboard an old Webley, HW45/70, Scorpian or Walther springer to compete with, as well as using our favourite target pistol in a separate entry.
This would also allow us at the end of the season to judge just how good or bad some of the recoiling type pistols are against the recoiless match type pistols of today.
Same rules of course ie. .177 cal and shot 1 handed, standing and unsupported
I would be quite happy to put up a modest little prize for best recoiling pistol (and exclude my self from the prize), although I would like to take part
If the answer is yes, then you could put a cap of 2 entries or 3 entries/person

    Thanks John

I bought my Fas very cheap because the seals had gone
I made the mistake of ordering a set of seals from Surrey Guns. He charged me £39
When thy arrived, I went to my local plumbers and bought a matching set which i keep as spares(they cost about £3)
Only 1 of the Fas seals needs to be hard wearing and that is the one on the moving piston that takes all the wear
As an experiment, I just used an ordinary O ring (from a plumbing shop)for this purpose and it still works 2 years later. So don't rush into spending £39 for a set of O rings
Screwfix will sell you a box of 500 for £14 in a full range of sizes

If you want me to e-mail you the parts diagram for the 604 let me know, as some of the O rings are duplicated in the pistol.

I asked a few replies ago about any objections or thoughts on entering wityh more than one pistol, since there was no feedback either way I will say "yes" anyone who wants to enter with another pistol that meets the criteria then go ahead, after all this comp is all about making use of guns that you may not be using so much these days.
And no doubt the offer of a token prize will sweeten the deal, very kind of you.
    regards
    Graeme

180!! looks like there is a real competition on now for some of the entrants.

For anyone with faulty O-rings on their FAS604
Hopefully there should be some pics attached that will be useful for O-ring replacement

    and

Thanks for reply Graeme (re. more than 1 pistol)

Only just seen your replies John - many thanks.

I took the pistol apart tonight and the piston head o-ring is completely trashed (comforting that it was so obvious!) - more on this post:
    http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/show...7&postcount=10

I'd already ordered a seal kit when I saw your post (had a feeling that the o-rings would be standard parts, but the kit was only £16 from BAR, so not too bad). As you say, I'll sort out some spares from an engineering supplier to keep for the future!

    thanks again

Interesting. BAR = £16 v's Surrey Guns = £39. Similar story for other items too as I see they advertise the airgunners favourite chrono - the Combro Mk4 at £79. Don't imagine they sell too many of these items

I know they're a specialist shop, with access to every Gehmann item under the sun, but that's a tad steep in anyone's language.

Just shows how important it is to shop around.

    More scores

    Graeme
These are Pete's and my scores using springers for round 1

    Pete - HW45
    34/32/33/36 =135

    John - Walther LP53
    36/41/40/39 = 156

Thanks for info on BAR. Yet another FAS604 came into the club this week and needs new seals. I changed the piston and breech seals which improved matters, but it wont hold the charge for long, so I guess the smaller O-rings on the exhaust v/v also need replacing

    FAS606
Does anyone out there own a FAS 606
I have seen articles on this good looking single stroke pneumatic but never seen one in the metal

    No worries
As I'm sure you know, but for the benefit of others who may read this, once you've got the gun apart, replacing the valve o-rings isn't a hard job - three o-rings - one requires dissassembly of the valve. However try not to completely remove the tiny roll pin which holds the valve assembly together (leave it located in one side of the valve head). I did knock it out completely and it looks like it's going to be a bu**er to replace

I've never seen one, although Mr Clevely of Checkmate Guns (FAS guru by all accounts and very helpful on the phone), did mention that while he thought the 604 a lovely gun, he considered the 606 to be a "disaster" ....

    cheers

    Competition first round

I'd like to join the competition if I may.

With as FAS604 (on loan so I hope I manage to hold onto it for the duration)

It is my first competition, being new to air pistolling, so I'll have to see how I get on.

    43 - 39 - 40 - 47 - total 169.

I hope to enter some scores with an HW10 and a Baikal in the next couple of days.

    Andrew
