One hears a lot of drugs and illegal doping in highly physical sports like athletics but how common is doping on the shooting circuit?

I don't know, but there is a lot of drinking the night before occasionally. I doubt that is performance enhancing though, I tend to find noisy bangy things a tad off putting the next day...

    Doping

Depends if you use the same banned list as most other sports I'd be fine as would most others. If strong painkillers were banned I'd not even be able to make the event let alone shoot it!

I've heard rumours of people taking beta blockers but a lot of people take them on prescription anyway.

Thats the best thing about shooting sports, it doesn't matter how much of a physical wreck you are you can still compete. I'd be stretchered off a rugby pitch after 5 minutes these days, but I can shoot all day and have very few problems with my back now!

Bet if i put you with Glynn Furniss, you would then ask to go with someone quiet

Hmm HotSpuds - this is a hot potato and I'm going to drop it having been the "dope" of the shooting circuit and this forum.

I put the grin in for Weevie so he could see it was a joke and may be a poor one at that. The following was meant as a pun and I cut and paste it here. Because Bisley was mentioned as the venue - not by me, my twisted mind turned to making puns (which I love - groan) on Bisley pellets and I think with the following I covered them all but if I haven't I'm sure someone will put me right as in the recent past You will note I poke fun at myself in the above as a dope and a pest in the following?

"Perhaps it was the PREMIER team putting in a bit of PRACTICE on a SUPERFIELD hoping for LONG RANGE GOLD from a MAGNUM performance?

I will perform my own PEST CONTROL now by logging off as work beckons even at this ungodly hour."

Now I'm going to move on having apologised to Pod and I include the rest of you in that who may had raised hackles at what I said. I don't want to give you any more "ammunition" for "pointed" remarks so I will remove my "roundhead" suitably "flattened" and chastened!

I take a scoot load of beta blockers after having heart surgery and its upped my hft score by about ONE,I thought this sport was about having fun, meeting people and taking the pee out of each other,if people are gonna get serious and start threatening people then i feel its time for them to move on to football or some other form of hooligan sport and leave the rest of us to enjoy hft as it was meant to,so come on people new season is a coming lets go have some fun.

Tramadol are OK as they are not on the banned list

There are nasty side effects with Beta blockers' I was told by my Doc that there are often problems in the 'trouser' department when taking them!

I doubt that many would be prepared to become impotent for shooting sucess

    Cheers

A competition is the place for learners/newcomers (of any age!) to try to put into practice what they have learned and for their "coach" to see what needs addressing in the next coaching session.

It is unfair on other shooters (who may be still learning themselves) for any coaching/help to be given during competition.
That would be my take on it as well

How can it be fair if 2 people are comparing ranges shot etc on each lane?

Shooter A misses when ranged at 40 yards so tells shooter B this and shooter B then hits when ranged to 35 yards?

If I was the 3 rd shooter in this group I'd be well pi44ed off!
