    Thumbs up Paradise regained

The farmer who looks after my shoot cornered the landowner's wife today and told her I was not running an Al-Qaeda training camp in her garden. Apparently my camouflage was a big factor in why she'd been spooked by me. He gave her the line I'd given him: namely that the residents - including her brother-in-law had specifically asked me to shoot the squirrels in their gardens - making a nonsense of her argument that I was told not to shoot near the houses.

He also told her about the damage the rabbits were causing to the crops. She had no idea they caused any damage and thought people shot them just for a sadistic wheeze.

The upshot is that I will continue to control the vermin on this farm but I will be giving her house a wide berth and certainly not checking my zero within her earshot again. The farmer also said that I should "let sleeping dogs lie" and no longer phone her to say I've arrived. I shall continue to inform the other (sane) residents.

I want to give a big thanks to the people who gave me words of advice and support over this mini-crisis: Shaggy_Pack, Baz, Keef, gaz gun man and even that deadbeat Gary.

Hmmm, having just spent £750 on my Benelli M3 I might have trouble with that one. I can't afford another Loius Vuitton bag just now. That's how my wife works you see, I get something, she has to get something. At least I know where I stand

You live very close to me Phil. Come on - smell the walnut oil - feel how smoothly the bolt cycles, be amazed by this weapon's perfect heft - you know you want to, Phil. Such luxury - and only just around the corner (and up the A23)

lionel, Glad you got it back now m8 Prove yourself invalueable

Gary, if it helps m8, a Mate of mine had a shoot specifically for Tree Rat's they were infeseted with em.
it was my mates shoot & I use to go to help get as many as possable.
He for a while prefured 177 for hunting & I hunt with .22 but at this shoot .22 did real well with PCP, but nowhere as good as a .22 Whiscome.

The tree rats were spooked as soon as they heard a shot go off, even on a quite rifle with a decent silencer & we couldn't understand why.
For a joke matie said stuff it II'l use the Whiscome & started to get results, so I then did the same thing. we couldn't understand why pcp's spooked em so much, we knew it wasn't down to us becasue it was working well at another shoot. OK it worked but it was ****** hard going trying to cover a 100 acre with a Whiscome wasn't for the faint hearted. By the time night fell & it was time to bash bunnies we were both completely knackard & could only handle plotting up.

Matie started asking questions to the shoots main contact, becasue someone was making it even harder going, even with a infesstation as big as it was we weren't getting the numbers we use to get, we'd see quite a few just going up the drive. As soon as a shot was let off & we had the first one of the day, nothing it's was weird!
It turned out the head cheif who lived on site at the gate house hated squirrels with a passion, got bit by one apparently, & when he started working there went out & got an S200 and on a daily bascis before & after work went out blasting anything that was grey & moved.
Shortly after matie & I fell out so i haven't been since,

Sorry to side track Lionel, Congrates again mate

Look Coop - maybe your Wiltshire trees make easy targets but my Surrey ones can sway about a bit. They're not as easy as they look. And as for bribing the old bat - she wouldn't be interested in anything you've got to offer.

Amazing stuff Shaggy-Pack - I never thought squirrels would be able to tell the difference between an S200 and a Whiscombe. They must be reading Airgun World.

A Major influencing factor in me going for Advantage Timber over DPM - my shoot has a fairly busy B road going through it, and members of the public are less likely to think I'm part of a terrorist group in my nice earthy greens

Glad you got your shoot back though mate, I'd be inconsolable if the same happened to me!

Sport's starting to take over my life these days - and I'm loving every minute of it
